Hi,

Does anyone get grub error 17 when booting via usb (pendrive)

under Qemu grub & DSL boots fine ...

Searching web suggests bios problems or worng partition

Once grub was loaded to pendrive device.map shows sda as (hd2) ...

I added to menu.lst (hd0.0) wondering if thats the problem ?

Anyone had any luck using lilo on a pendrive ....

Or does syslinux support usb booting now ?

TIA

Mr Green

Ok so I get grub prompt ,,, now ...

error 17 relates to partition (file system!) not found

grub>root

I'm going to try to have boot on separate partition (on stick) see if that works ...

It's showing up as hda2? If so, the drive should look like (hd0,1)

Hi,

Well using root & find (menu.lst) nothing is found sooo

I guess my system is not picking up usb stick?

May try a different setting in BIOS see what happens .

was set as hd2 ... in device.map emmm

Would lilo be easier to set up?

ah, trying to boot your usb stick....

Are you using a newer grub? I was thinking the one with DSL did not have that capability.

grub 0.97-2 ....

qemu works fine but booting just get grub prompt ....

then loads up my main system as normal

I was getting an error 17 during boot for an IDE drive setup as /dev/hda1.  The problem was the partition type wasn't set properly.  For some reason it thought the partition type was FAT16 instead of Linux.  Fixing that using cfdisk solved the boot error.
