Hello I am new in this forum.
I am German, so please do not wonder about funny or "special" expressions.
In the Moment I try to make a kind of file-server out of my Zenega 101S Media Center. I got it as a Satreceiver and try now to use the momentarily worthless Intelpart of the System.
Because of the Fakt that I am not a big Hardware-specialist I try to do this without changing the Hardware. So I want to boot from a usb-pendrive and then mount a usb-harddisk. The best possibility to make this dream real seems to be dsl with the extensions VNC-server and samba server.
The last issue of the german periodical "linuxuser" provided the dsl 2.0 distribution as live-CD (vmplayer image). I successfully created a bootable pendrive. Whats for me not as easy is to integrate the above mentioned extensions. I found a documentation for a mkmydsl script that should be part of dsl. I think following the description I will be able to create a iso-image.

My problem is to get this image on a bootable pendrive. I dont know if it is possible to exchange the Knoppix File on my bootable stick with the image i produced by using mkmydsl.
So my question is if I can easily exchange this files and the pendrive will boot or will I have to choose another way?

The solution is simple.

Boot from your USB pendrive.

Use the mydsl gui to download the extensions to /tmp

Open the emelfm file manager as super user

Go to /tmp and copy the extension files over to /cdrom

The next time you boot up your USB pendrive, these extensions will automatically be loaded.

You will need to use the DSL Backup/Restore process to save the samba and VNC configuration files once you have set up your custom configurations.
