I would like to do the same...I have tried the Install to USB HDD option, but when my pendrive boots up, it cannot find the kernel image. Can anyone help? Posted by cbagger01 on Jan. 10 2006,23:41
Boot DSL from livecd.Do a USBHDD pendrive installation. It will restore your pendrive to a single partition. Posted by Chile on Jan. 11 2006,01:19
The problem I am having with that is when I do the HDD install, when the pendrive boots, i cannot find the kernal image

In order to do a full HD install, you will need to copy the /boot folder from the livecd over to your USB drive. For USB boot problems, try creating a USB boot floppy and see if you can boot using floppy+USBdrive Posted by Breadman on Jan. 12 2006,16:30
but that does not really solve the problem with the dual use as a storage device under windows and a boot device for dsl...at least, i can not open (or even find) any data in dsl i copied from windows to my stick. It's the same the other way round. How can i open a file in windows that i created in DSL and saved with the backup-function. Posted by dsquared on Jan. 12 2006,18:31
Are you aware that windows will not see more than one partition on the USB thumb drive? Windows will see the first partition only of 50mg. Post your response to the following (you will see the second partition) 1) fdisk /dev/sda 2) p Posted by cbagger01 on Jan. 12 2006,18:44
The backup file will be saves as:backup.tar.gz You can make a copy of this file and then work on the copy. If you have a program like winrar or some of the Windows ZIP programs, you will be able to extract the archive and view the files. I strongly suggest that you NOT rebuild an extracted archive or modify the original archive file from within MSwindows because Windows uses a different file structure/permissions etc Posted by cbagger01 on Jan. 12 2006,18:50
FYI,If you want to save files DIRECTLY to your USBHDD drive so they can be seen by both MSWindows and DSL (but NOT embedded DSL), open EMELFM AS SUPER USER and copy the file to /cdrom You need to use a USBHDD install because when running USBZIP, the USBZIP partition is already full at 50MB Posted by Chile on Jan. 13 2006,02:15
BTW, I have two partitions on my USB Flash Drive and Windows Reads/Writes to them just fine; however, I can't seem to mount the second partition in Linux.

You say windows will read write to both partitions on your flash drive, did you do a usb zip installation or usb hdd? is there some way to force windows to see the other partition?

PQI's flash drive utility let's you create two partitions...for me it worked on other drives also...other thumb drives usually let you have a visible and a "Secret" partition, but this one lets both be available
