Ok, first off I know nothing about Linux and it took me a long time to figure out the nothing I know. I used the live cd and I did he USB install as USB zip and USD hdd. When I choose boot from removable storage, my laptop just skips my usb card and goes to windows. Any one know why? And also, as I much as I looked, I can't find how to get files off the harddrive, or just to view files. I tried smbtree, but it asks me for a password.

Thanks,
Footclan

not all motherboards can successfully boot from USB.
you might wanna try fiddling around with the bios settings first.
and maybe trying it out on another machine.

personally, i gave up booting from usb a long while ago.
reliable methods are booting with a floppy disk, booting
from HD after a frugal install or booting from a fat16 partition
with dos or freedos using loadlin.
