First, how do I save ALL settings on the usb-drive so I don't have to reconfigure everything ? (Resoultion, keyboardcharsets, and more)
I just read in the < wiki > that you can use the Backup/Restore command to save a backup. But I can't find where the USB-drive is mounted.
Second, is it possible to change to display frequency? I read that you could install xfree86.. I think I know how to download it but how do I configure it?

As you might hear I am a complete beginner on linux/DSL, but I appreciate all help.

First find it using the mount.app tool on the bottom right hand corner in DSL. scroll around until you find something like sdXx.  Mount it, then when you backup/restore, pass the exact same name before (i.e. sdXx).

For XF86, read its .info first, then you can change the display settings in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 manually, or try one xf86config.

Yes I found the mount tool, but no USB there, only found cdrom, floppy, sda1, and harddrives. But since DSL is booted from usb it should be acessible, shouldn't it?
And I don't want to load backups after I booted, but during booting. By the way my usb stick is 1024 mb so space is no problem.

Still not work. I used the backup tool to sda1 and then a started dsl with "dsl restore sda1". Nothing was restored. No themes, no application settings. What am I doing wrong?

hit f2 at the start to see the cheat codes. i think you was to use> dsl restore=/dev/sda1

also make sure you read dillo, most instructions are in there.

If you used the install scripts provided, then the backup device would already be set and would be automatic.

If you are talking about mydsl extensions, then, those are not in any backup.
The extensions are  large and static and you would not want them in every backup.

Since you booted from usb, then it is important to know if you used a usbzip or usbhdd install.

If zip style then you have a small partition and a large partition. In this case I would mount sda2, then second (large) partition, make a directory called mydsl and then copy the extensions there. You will not have to do anything else. They will be restored at next boot.

If you used usbhdd then you have a single large partition, simply copy the extensions to /cdrom as user root, or drag and drop them there with emelfm superuser. Booting from usb means the device is mounted at /cdrom. Again, no other action is necessary.

Of course this applies to recent versions of DSL and using the install scripts provided.
