the issue is no fault of dsl but my lack of knowledge....when I boot winxp and plug the pen in it is blank and works fine for storage so I need to know how to do more than format it I need to delete the win partition I think to clear it for dsl install then learn how to do back up restore...will do some reading on that
any one know how I can delete the win  or fix the pen
will try a google
thanks

I did the USB pen drive install and tried to get it to boot with a floppy and it wouldn't boot.  So I tried the pen drive script again and it still didn't work.  I gave up and reformated the floppy and the floppy tool said the disk was bad.  I used a new disk and it booted fine.

Anyway I didn't have a problem exactly like yours but you can run the pen drive install script again and that might fix it.  It didn't hurt my USB drive when I reinstalled.  The install script seems to reformat the pen drive.  You could try the zip install and then run fdisk to change your left over partition.

Thanks for responding

I attempted several reinstalls and the pen seems to be an issue but works fine for win storage...will pick up another pen next time I go shopping.

I must have damaged it for linux..it seemed to work the first time...can not delete the partition..or do not know how...it is not an available option in winxp and dsl fdisk does not recognize either...sorry...think I am repeating myself...just mystified and eager to get dsl and adds to a pen....want to run instead of win online ...it is faster than the p166 with dsl2.4 I'm currently useing...when I figure it out I will download the newer version for a fresh pen...:0

I actually have DSL running on the exact same Lexar ThumbDrive with no issues.  The one thing different that I did from you was that I formatted the drive with a FAT system from within my Debian install.  Aside from that I had no trouble.  Hope that helps.  :)

Thanks...ya it helps a little...I will grab another lexar as it will work and I have conformation...I admit I just formatted and it was likely fat32...dsl is automatic and my guess was fat16...will try fat as I have a few just now..oh the mindless moments of potential joy...:)

Oh well...will mess with it until I destroy this pen and give up...I am sure it is simple if I knew what to do...I understand I am running in ram and lose all for that reason..sda1 is a single partition created by dsl...do I need to creat a second before install to store .dsl and tar.gz ...BAH...nevermind...carryon

it is simple basically speaking,,,,save extensions to the CDROM directory but not the second or third cdrom directory THE FIRST and backup/restore to sda1,,,YAh...boot dsl restore=sda1

but I AM haveing the same issue I had with the non frugal install....beaver will not save settings or to a directory...the solution was to reinstall...so off I go.

I am so slow at this stuff there is already a newer version..from what I read it is even easier..and has built in extension?...cool  :0

I have an install of DSL on the exact same pendrive running for 6 months now and have had no problems yet. As far as not being able to save a file from beaver, make sure you set the permissions right for the folder you are saving it to or if you are modifying a file use beaver as super user. i.e., from terminal "sudo beaver /path/to/file" - from desktop, just right-click on icon and choose "Beaver as Super User" - from Emelfm right-click desktop icon and choose "Emelfm as Super User" or from Emelfm as dsl user, browse to file > right-click on file > choose "open with" and type "sudo beaver".

Yes thanks I know...the issue is with the install..I had the same issue with my hd install....I reinstalled and it is fine now for settings and save to ramdisk...I could copy to another directory for saveing and open...

the issue now is cut/copy and paste...I can cut and paste within a beaver or ted doc but can not copy paste within also cannot cut or copy between the two...this may mean that I can not copy from browser to beaver...may be the two button with scrool ps2 mouse....went to xsetup and tried the ps2 three button...but same...not sure may be the install..my hd istall works fine but has 2 button serial...

will plug away...got this far..not complaining about dsl...I love it..just workin out the kinks..want to use the dsl pen rather than xp online

Ok...the scroll is working and I can right click for a cut copy menu but can not highlite and click l/r...I can cut copy past for beaver to beaver docs but those moved to cdrom are read only..I can still not type new ted and copy to new beaver but it does not matter if I can copy from browser to beaver...

the question now is why the dial up script fails...I have try all ports 1234...in xp the moterola sm56 modem is on com3

otherwise it is looking good..have to reinstall the xmms alarm but thats ok it is a .deb and wmdrawer will not save the icon...uses default but thats ok also
...need to get online to see if I can copy notes

WHAT IS THIS A BLOG.....sorry,,was actually hopeing for input but managed...

the modem is a real stumper could use some help thanks

adding...put /opt/wmdrawer in filetool1st solves icon

the pen install is now working great..I like it except the modem will not work

adding..maby the moterola sm56 is a win modem?...I still have an old external but think it is 14.4...oh well will give that a try as option...

adding..when I boot dsl the usrobotics sportster modem terminal ready lite flashes thrice

when I click dial for connection the TR lite comes on and stays on but no dial tone...

noticed: device ttyo is locked by pid 1325 when I try again

the isp info is fine..works on other unit hd install

how do I get the external modem to work
