2GB PNY Attache' - Not detectedForum: USB booting Topic: 2GB PNY Attache' - Not detected started by: PepsiTom Posted by PepsiTom on Dec. 13 2006,15:38
i have a new 2GB PNY Attache' USB Key... I am hoping to install DSL on it, but it does not seem to be detected by DSL. I have tried the install to Pendrive several times, but it fails with an input/output error, ultimately stating that /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device.I have also tried fdisk /dev/sda, and i get this error: Unable to read /dev/sda. I tried mounting the existing FAT (not FAT32) partition, but it tells me that /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device. Additionally, I have done all of the steps above using /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc as well. I didn't really think it would help, but I thought it was worth a try. I have tried several other USB keys, and I am able to mount all them without any problem at all. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! Tom Posted by ognjen on Dec. 14 2006,13:39
I have exactly the same usb Key - PNY Attache 2GB, and I succeded in installing DSL on it. I don't know what OS do you use, I did this from Windows XP. This is what I did:-Format the key with HP format utility with FAT (not FAT32) filesystem. Previously when I formatted with windows format, it did not work. -syslinux g: where syslinux is 3.31 -extract dsl-3.1-embedded.zip onto usb drive. -reboot, and it works Now I have to figure out why my usb mouse doesnt't work in xwindows, but that is something completely different. Ah... the HP format utility... That thought passed through my head brieflly, probably during a reboot. ;-)Great idea. I did format it with Windows XP's format, but not the HP tool. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll let you know how it goes. -Tom Posted by ognjen on Dec. 17 2006,21:53
Glad I could be of assistance. Did you have any success?
