I have installed DSL on a usb key. Boots fine, can acces files ect. It all works, but everything is rendered in strange colors. Text is fine, but anything more complex looks strange and speckily, with lots of different colors. This is using Xvesa 1024x768, 32 bit color.

However, if I switch to 640x480, 16 bit color, everything is fine!Exept unuseable because it is so big.

Try booting with the NODDC option.

Type DSL NODDC at the boot prompt.

It's probably due to the fairly limited support xvesa has for certain monitors.

Try the newer Xvesa from the testing section. If still not, then Xfree is the way to go....

I had that same problem. But eventually I discovered that my monitor was only cabable up to 640x480 with 16bit colors. If I set more colors it went bogus. Readbale but colors were mixed badly.

So have you tried to use higher resolutions with 16bit colors? Or even less colors?

You can check which modes are supported by runnins Xvesa -listmodes

If you can't get a solution you want, you might want to try a full xserver - see XFree86 extensions.
