Hi to DSL community,
first, sorry for my poor English. I'll try to make u understand me ^_^

I was so excited when I listened about having a complete system on my 128 MB USB pendrive, that now is impossible for me to renounce to this!
Let's say u my questions.

I downloaded:
- bootusb-0.8.img
- dsl-0.9.0.1.iso
- winImage
- IsoBuster

Then, I've done what is explained here in the forums:
- format USB drive in FAT (done with normal format task of win2K)
- write image of bootusb-etc-etc.img into USB drive with winImage
- open ISO file with IsoBuster and extract KNOPPIX folder directly into USB drive
- (also) write a CD with downloaded ISO file.

Rebooted the machine, changed boot sequence in BIOS and wait for the miracle.
DSL starts loading ( so the motherboard is well configured and the bootusb image was successfully written...I think!), checks for DSL image in sda1, sda2, sda3, etc. and says that the DSL filesystem don't found, or something similar.
I think I made some mistakes in copying KNOPPIX compressed filesystem file, or the position of it.

The directory listing is:
boot.msg
f2
f3
german.kbd
ldlinux.sys
linux24
logo.16
minirt24.gz
syslinux.cfg
KNOPPIX [dir]
|_ KNOPPIX

I hope someone can help me.
Thanks ;)

What is your motherboard?

A couple of us are having this problem and so far I don't know the solution. Boot into your main operating system with your usb device attached and then reboot and see if DSL will load. For me this works 2 out of 5 times. For the most part though I just get a screen full of scrolling text saying knoppix couldn't be found.

I have formatted my thumbdrive every way imaginable, from windows, linux, etc.. doesn't matter. I have edited linuxrc inside minirt24.gz to add a longer delay while the drivers load and the drive is detected, didn't help. It just seems like a random thing. Sometimes it'll even boot 4-5 times in a row and I'll think the problem went away, then I get the screen full of scrolling text. Very annoying to say the least!

Thanx for your help.
I tried booting from USB in two different motherboards (sorry, I don't have the model names here), but the end is just the same...it can't found KNOPPIX file...
I think I'll try other mini-distros like RUNT.

Anyone can suggest me a valid alternative to DSL, expecially for PHP scripting (so Apache, MySql & PHP would be the best) ?
Of course, all in a pen ^___^ !!!

Hi ConteX

Don't give up on DSL just yet, you will be very happy

Does your machine have a bootable cdrom drive and an internet connection, if it does use the frugal install script to get DSL on your USB Pendrive.

Take a look at the threads on page 3/4 of < this thread >
