If I try to set up dsl to boot from this pendrive will it delete the secure features program that comes standard on this jumpdrive?  I ordered this yesterday and am awaiting arrival however I would like to install dsl to boot up and understand that formatting the jumpdrive is the first step.  Any help??

Yes

It will delete the security utility programs that come with your pendrive.

You may be able to back up the utility programs to a floppy disk or to your local hard drive before formatting but once you format the pendrive they will be lost.

Is there a way to apply DSL to the pendrive without formatting first?

Edit:  Forgot to say THANKS by the way.

Nope

Unless your pendrive is already formatted as "Bootable", it appears like you will need to reformat the drive.

Although depending on what the secure app is, you might be able to put it in a separate partition once you have formatted and installed DSL.

I had four partitions on my new compactflash.  1 of 256mb and 3 empty....?  Deleted them all, (installed, failed to boot, re-read the instructions ;-), changed the sectors to 32, installed, worked fine.

I also loaded 0.9.1 onto it by opening the iso, copying the knoppix file over the old one (and the new logo.16 file) and rebooting.

Nice and easy.
