Sell DSL on a USB DriveForum: USB booting Topic: Sell DSL on a USB Drive started by: hpoom Posted by hpoom on Jan. 28 2005,12:21
Just posting this as I want to know if this is allow and also if people think it would be popular. What I want to do is install DSL and a bunch of usefull tools onto a 128Mb pen drive and then sell them on ebay. I'm I allowed to do this. I'm not looking at making money ( I don't think that would be fair ) I just want to help spread Linux. I've been selling CD's of Linux on ebay for about 3 months now and it seams to work well. So is this allowed ( legal ) Also do you think it would sell. I could do different configurations, I kinda recovery network one and maybe a medai type MP3 player one. Thanks hpoom Posted by SaidinUnleashed on Jan. 28 2005,13:22
First, an answer, because you asked a question.Yes, under the GPL, you can sell whatever software you want. You have the right. Perhaps you can donate a dollar or 2 for each one sold to the project? DSL doesn't make any money. Infact the project is quite broke. John has < blogged > about DSL's serious lack of cashage lately. And, according to Distrowatch, we are the 10th most popular distro there is! So go ahead and sell them, but if you can, and I think you can, you said you weren't interested in making money, donate some back. Whatever you do, it's up to you. -J.P. Thanks for the quick reply. I think I might try an make a couple of bootable keys this weekend and stick them on ebay UK. If they sell I'll keep doing it. And you suggestion of a donation is a good one, If my plan works I will donate a % of the sale price to the project. Thanks hpoom |
