Hi, i'm trying the DSL ditribution, and it's very very wonderful. But, it's possible install a DSL on a 128 MB pen in ext fs ?..but not a live distro and not a compressed. Thanks in advice EXA PS. i try frugal install, but sda is not supported. Posted by meo on May 26 2005,13:53
Hi exa_gon!I really agree with you that DSL is a wonderful distribution. I'm just curious why you want it to be in ext2(?) filesystem. I'm using dsl-embedded on a fat32 formatted usb-drive and it works just fine embedded in either windows or linux and it can be booted directly from the usb-drive as if it were a harddrive. So why ext2(?) filesystem? Have fun, meo Posted by exa_gon on May 26 2005,14:35
Hi meo,Because i want to configure all my system on time!and when i reboot all configuration is saved on a fs. ....the ext is an a curiosity. Thanks in advice. Bye EXA Posted by SaidinUnleashed on May 26 2005,15:13
Although you could install to a pendrive like a normal hdd theoretically, you really would not want to, due to the limited number of writes you can do to a sector with flash media.Your pendrive would keel over and start smoking very quickly. Posted by meo on May 26 2005,19:15
Hi again!I use the backup/restore utility to save my settings. I have this file in the root of my usb-drive and it works like a charm. You can even change the settings so that DSL makes a backup automatically when you shutdown the computer. Does't that sound like something for you exa_gon? Yes meo, wow.Can you explain how do you do that ?Thanks a lot guys. Bye EXA Posted by meo on May 27 2005,10:47
Hi exa_gon!Well it's quite simple really. The key to the backup/restore utility is the filetol.lst found in your home directory. When you make a backup everything on the filetool.lst is compressed into the backup.tar.gz file known as the backup-file. You can put it where you want but if you are using a usb-drive and want it to backup at boot without having to give an extra boot command just put it on sda1. I guess that is how your usb-drive is recognized in DSL. If you want to make DSL to automatically make a backup when you shutdown go to /opt/powerdown.sh and make sure the last line filetool.sh backup noprompt is uncommented (no # mark before this line) and that's all. Hope It all works out to your liking. Have fun, meo |
