USB Key - Save Configuration ProblemsForum: USB booting Topic: USB Key - Save Configuration Problems started by: KE1HA Posted by KE1HA on June 20 2005,12:16
All - I've got DSL v1.2.1 installed on a 128MB USB Key. That all went rather smoothly. There were a couple of things I want running at / after boot time: 1 - vncserver 2 - ssh Problem: 1 - Vncserver: I've downlaed the dsl extentions and installed then / tested. All works fine at that point. But, If I do a reboot, i have to do that all over again. Iv'e saved the extemtions in my home directory just to make that quick, but operating this remotely will not work if a reboot is required. So .. how do i get these extentions / installations saved so this will work at boot time. ?? Problem: 2 - ssh & root passwd's: I'm having all sorts of problems with root passwd changes. I can't seem to get DSL to accept a root or dsl passwd change until I use the GUI useradd.lua to add a temp user. Then I ca change the passwds < very strange >. When in installed the O/S to the Pendrive, I added in ssh to be installed at boot, so sshd is there & running, I just can't get at it becase I don't have the password for it .. So, how do I change the root passwd and have it stick so when i reboot, they remain the same. I think DSL is a great Distribution, but im really frustrated with the not being able to figure out how to save things properly. Im sure im just not doing something right, and one that's sorted, I'll be well happy with it. Any advice / info on this would be greately appreciated. . . Put the vncserver and ssh .dsl into the root of the pendrive - dsl auto loads any that are there - ones you want available in the menu go into a directory called /optional
