I have used Unix for years a work, but no longer.  I miss it so I purchased the USB install of DSL to see if I might like to run Linux at home on my PC.  I haven't installed yet but have a few questions about it's capabilities.  If I run DSL from USB, will I be able to see my hard drive's in my PC as well?  Meaning say I download something large from the internet, will I be able to save it on my hard drive?  I understand that this can be ran inside windows.  What would be the purpose in that?  I know these are pretty basic questions, but I have never ran any form of Linux, especially a "mini" version.  Also, I just looked at the "mini computers" DSL is selling and wonder what would be there main purpose as well.  I mean there is no storage capacity so there is no way to save or load something other than on the pen drive that is running the OS?
