Hi all,

me again with a USB booting related problem. :/
I had the DSL 1.4 installed by the "install to USB HDD" script
whithout any problems.
Today I tried to install the DSL 1.5 the same way, but it is
recognizing the stick only as a USB 1.1 device after the install. :/

Installed the 1.5, two times with the same result, then I tried the
1.4 again - > all working fine, tried to install 1.5 again everything fine but booting with USB 1.1. :/

The ehci-hcd module is not loaded when I boot from the USB stick with DSL 1.5.

DSL 1.4 requires net acess to do the pendrive installs. That is, it is using the custom, but primarily stripped, usb boot floppy, in which I can control the order of module load attempts. Without net access I am using the standard cdrom isolinux booting via linuxrc that is standard Knoppix ordering of modules. Until I try to change the boot order there, you can still use the external pendrive install scripts available in the download current section to achieve usb 2.0 with DSL 1.5.

That worked fine, thanks roberts.

Following the suggestion above, I have used pendrive_usbzip.sh from the current download area to upgrade my USB DSL but when I boot with the toram option it takes a lot longer than with 1.4 so I suspect that it is not using USB 2.0. What am I doing wrong?

Also, in 1.4 I could boot from the USB stick with nousb (yes it is a bit illogical) to avoid the lengthy detection of all the USB ports. Booting 1.5 with nousb I am dropped to the prompt with limited functionality (or something similar).

I loved the speed of booting in 1.4 but now in 1.5 it is slowed down in two ways, firstly due to USB 1.1 and secondly because I cannot boot with nousb.

As nobody replied so far, do I have to assume that I am the only one whose DSL slowed down after the upgrade from 1.4 to 1.5? Please help me out, I need the speeeed.

Try this:

1) Download the DSL usb boot floppy image file from the website.
2) From linux, use "dd" or from Windows use Rawrite32 to create a usb boot floppy disk.
3) Rename the minirt24.gz file on your pendrive to minirt24.gz.old
4) Copy minirt24.gz from the usb boot floppy over to your pendrive.

Hopefully, this will work.  If it doesn't work, simply delete the new minirt24.gz file and rename the old file back to it's original name.

Thanks cbagger01, minirt24.gz did the trick! I copied it off the USB stick carrying 1.4, then I updated to 1.5 and copied over minirt24.gz. The speed is back now as it runs as USB 2.0 and I can use the nousb option.
