Hi everybody,

I'm currently trying to install DSL 2 to my USB pendrive. I've choosen the lazy way - I wrote the "bootfloppy-usb.img" using WinImage on my pendrive and copied all the stuff out of the current.iso to the drive.
I'm now able to boot from the drive; I see the initial screen  and can choose the boot options. I tried some of these options always with the same result

"kernel panic : VFS : Unable to mount root fs on 03:02"

I'm a little bit confused, because the boot files are on the pendrive as well, why can't DSL load the rest?

Does anybody of you guys know this problem and can help me?

This is kind of less than helpful.  

Assuming I don't go with this method because it's not supported, what's the easiest way (described in maximum verbosity) for a newbie like me to get started?

The easiest way is to download the dsl.iso file, burn it to CD-R disk as an image.

Boot DSL from livecd

Insert pendrive into USB port.

Wait 10 seconds.

Choose Install to USB Pendrive from the Right-Click Menu.

Follow the prompts.

Your drive will most likely appear as devicename "sda", but you can confirm this by opening an xterminal window and type:

dmesg | grep scsi -A 3

to find out your drive's devicename.

Thanks, I tried that and it worked.  I was trying to do it the lazy way by not wasting a CD.

Seems to work, but now my problem is getting the Compaq R4000 wireless card to work.  I'll probably give it an hour now and then some time tomorrow before I plead for more help .
