It is possible to run DSL from USB and still save documents in it from other OSes? Because I had my pendrive working great with DSL, but I added a file and while booting again from it, the PeeCee said that it couldn't find the Knoppix file system.....

Hi, I did not find a way, yet. The main reason of the problem, IMHO, is that DSL splits the pendrive in two partitions, while Win (or loose, your choise) sees one only. Posted by nidaba on Dec. 08 2005,02:47
DSL may only add two partitions, but with the right tools you can add others. I initially installed in the first (primary) partition. 1 Gb.I then booted knoppix 4.02 and used the qtparted to shrink that down to about 300 Mb. It only was using about 48 Mb. So 300Mb would be more then enough space. I had to reboot to continue several times, but I ended up with 3 partitions of roughly 300 Mb. I then tried to install to hard disk using sda as the drive. It loaded the file systems and then I cp /mnt/sdb1/* /mnt/sdb2 ; and then used fdisk to switch the active partition from sdb1 to sdb2. I booted from floppy and DSL came up. I can still see the contents of sdb1 with windows xp. I'm still looking at this because although I can boot DSL from he USB drive, it doesn't configure my Internet like with the live CD and I get modprobe errors. |
