(Doh.  Sorry, meant QEMU.  My apologies.)

Am I the only one getting this problem?  WinXP sp2, DSL 2.3, running from the batch file.   It gets to the "uncompressing linux" line and then the command box closes and I get the "Please tell Microsoft about this problem".

Its a xc0000005 exception, which is an access violation.

2.2 ran fine, btw.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Michael

Nope. You're not the only one.

Fix for me was to mark QEMU to run in Win98/ME compatibility mode.

My system that required this fix has > 1GB RAM. Please respond inline if this is also true with yours. Playing a hunch here...

Very good fix.  A simple change, and away it ran.  A good hunch, btw, but in my case, I have 1gb of ram, not more.  But the fix was very helpfu, thank you very much!

As i posted in the other thread about this crashes, for me it happens on a PIV 3.2GHz XP SP2 with 1GB RAM.

By your solution I'd say there's some problem with this qemu version, but have not found any reference to something like this yet.

I have a system with 768MB or RAM on Win XPSp2, and the newest stable relase of QEMU runs fine on it.  Running DSL-Embedded doen't work unless I do a 98/Me Compatibility mode flag.

(n00b alert): how exactly do you run qemu in win98 compatibility mode? thx.
Posted by kindofblue on April 20 2006,06:19
Never mind. Figured out the compatibility mode feature in XP. Rightclick on qemu.exe, and go to Properties you'll see the Compatibility tab. Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and choose Windows 98/ME > Apply.

Edit: Fix works nicely btw. Thank you indeed.

I just downloaded 2.4 embedded and am having the memory exception error. All my machines have more than 1 gig memory. How do you tag QEMU to run in the 98/ME mode

Ah, now that's a Windows question!
From within Windows look for the qemu.exe and right click on it to set properties/compatibility mode.

Thanks--
I never thought to look there, I was all wraped up in finding the right command line tag.
