Is there a way to remove the extra crap I don't need and then save the new configuration? Like I don't need X windows or anything like that. Or is there a way to save the new inittab setting I changed.

I was in the same position of trying to save my version of /etc/hosts. I added code to make my change to the startup script on my hdb.
BTW, the folks at Dynebolic have figured out a way using COW to make changes to the base system stick. Very nice, even saves new accounts you create. They use a small default save file so I don't know what the down side is, maybe COW overhead.

yes i would also like this as a feature. i would like to remove the welcome window pop-up and remove other uneeded things. There should be a usb-stick remasering prog. like the live cd remaster.
