I am looking to use DSL 3.0.1 Embedded as a portable environment for web browsing at school. All I need is amsn through the MyDSL, but I can't figure out how to get the extensions to install at boot up. IIRC, it's just a matter of saving them to the right directory, but I can't find/remember which directory it is. BTW, been outta the DSL loop for a while, since 2.3, and I gotta say, things are looking better and better! Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on July 30 2006,10:58
see < http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/damnsmall/mydsl/ >afaik in newer releases you may also use /mydsl Posted by colonel_panic on July 30 2006,14:15
Ok, thanks, I've tried putting them in /, but in embedded, there's only about 2.3 megs left. I'll have to try /mydsl. Only problem that I can think of there is that it is still in hda, which, like I said, is only 3 megs in DSL Embedded. I'm also kinda confused as to which partition that Embedded boots from... Ok, just tried /mydsl. There's no room... I guess what I need to know now is from where Embedded boots from. Posted by colonel_panic on July 30 2006,23:56
Ok, I think I finally got it. I have begun saving my extensions in hdb, and in the .bat file I added the option mydsl=hdb to the list of boot options. Works great now.

See my other post if you need a second virtual drive and to keep the backup separate from the downloaded extensions.

Ok, I'll take a look at that sometime. Although, at the moment, I think the standard setup is good for right now. For eveything else, theres VMWare Player
