Dsl Embedded won't startForum: DSL Embedded Topic: Dsl Embedded won't start started by: cdlaforc Posted by cdlaforc on Sep. 19 2006,01:47
Hello,I just started playing around with DSL a few days ago. I installed it on my Memorex usb key @ work and everything seemed to be working fine. I could run the dsl-linux.sh script and it would fire right up. When I took it home and I would click on it nothing would happen. I tried to run the script manually and it says permission denied. Although if I reboot my pc at home it comes up fine. After a little checking around I believe it is the way/permission the file on my usb key are giving when mounted up at home. At home I am running Fedora Core 5 and at work where it is working fine and where I installed it I am running Fedora Core 4. When I list the files in my terminal they have the permissions myusername.root. If I copy these to a directory in my home drive I can launch the dsl-linux.sh script no problem. Any suggestions? Thanks, Chris. Posted by King Wiley on Sep. 20 2006,00:09
It says Permission denied, right? And if the permissions needed is the root, just use the terminal (Command line) to get temporary root access. If you don't know how to do this, simply type:su <Enter> <Root password> <enter> This should give you root permissions, and let you do it. Hopefully you know how to run the program from within the terminal... If not, try logging into the root account and changing the permissions for it. If this doesn't help any, sorry, because I'm not all that familair with Fedora. Me = Just a Linux n00b. Glad to try to help, King Wiley Posted by cdlaforc on Sep. 20 2006,01:30
Thanks for the advise. I did try to run it as root, but recieved the same message. I really do believe it is the permissions/ownership that the memory key is being mount up with. Like I said if I copy the files to my home directory I can run the script fine. I posted a question out the Fedora Forums so maybe I can get some help there too. Is anyone else running this under Fedora? Probably not a whole lot, I mean why run linux inside of linux, right? Good news is it works fine for me under Windows. Let me know if you can offer any help. Thanks, Chris. |
