How do you make DSL embedded remember changes - I enabled apt-get and installed gcc, but on a restart of DSL/QEMU nothing has changed - the machine is as it was on first boot...

How do you change this?

This is a question of using a frugal installation: you'll have to save the extensions elsewhere (i.e. move them from the ramdisk).  I think they're stored in /tmp by default.  The dsl-embedded version includes hdb as an empty virtual hdd image that you could use as well.
