All,
I've formatted a Verbatim 1gig flashdrive as Fat32, extracted dsl-3.0.1 embedded zip to it and run syslinux.exe on it, all several times. When I double click the dsl-windows.bat file qemu starts, gets to the "Booting from Hard Disk..." text string and then errors with this report and then closes....

The instruction at “0x00471f70” referenced memory at “0x00000034”. The memory could not be read.

I've tried a couple of different embedded zip downloads with similar results.
Am I just missing something obvious? Or could it be a problem with the flashdrive?
Thanks,
Gene

For just running qemu, using syslinux is useless as it does not affect it - it installs the bootloader which is not needed in your case.

I would assume it's an os problem.  Using winxp? Try compatibility mode to win9x.

If not, unzip the zip to some place in your hdd and try running it from there.

AhHa!
Compatability mode in Properties. I never noticed that before. So now I've got it running embedded both in C: as well as theflash drive. Easy fix. Thanks so much. I fooled around with it for hours before your advise.

That did the trick for me too! Should be in the "readme.txt"!
