Xp? I know I know...no excuses for that one. but is it possible to have the two sharing the same HD?

It wont share that way...qemu is a complete stand alone system. In order to have a "harddrive" you will have to create one using the qemu image program, and edit the .bat file to tell qemu to use it

what format do you create with qemu-img?

I tried making a smaller hard drive (10M - raw format) and it won't mount the drive.

any help?

I have used featherlinux to partion the drive and installed featherlinux 0.62.

The I rebooted with dsl and installed dsl 9.01. Then it would recognize the qemu disk image.
