Hello Guys

This is my first post, but I have been searching these forums for this answer.

I have installed DSL using rc2 on a usb pen drive and it works fine. I have used the panel to install some different .dsl apps. What I would like to know  is it possible to keep these active in the menu after logging out and back in? I have read several post and tried the suggestions but every time I come back into dsl I have to use the myDSL button in emelfm to activate them. I have edited the filelist and all my flux settings and what not are saved. My goal is to be able to take my pen (1g) with me where ever I go and have the things I need. I need network security tools. Nmap, nessus etc. If I download the .dsl files I do have them but must activate them every time I login. Is there any way to save these or something I need to do so I can just right click and select them from my menu without having to reactivate them?

If you add the myDSL packages to the root of your boot partition they should be automatically installed when you boot.

You can either put them in the root (top level) directory of your USB drive OR create an /optional directory and put them there.

If they are in the root directory, they will be automatically loaded into memory upon reboot.

If they are in /optional, you will get an optional menu which will allow you to load the extensions individually at the time that you need them by choosing them from this optional menu and then selecting the program from the main menu or from the desktop icon.

I'm sorry to be so thick. I have tried putting them in what I thought was the root of my flash drive. This being the one with the qemu and KNOPPIX folders. They were not loaded. Is this the correct place? If so I have a problem, if not I guess I don't know what the root directory is.

that would be the root, as far as i can tell.  Perhaps you need to tell DSL where they are with the boot option
mydsl=sda1
change sda1 to whatever the partition is.

If that doesn't work, i'm afraid i'm out of ideas.

If you are using DSL Embedded, you may need to save them inside your virtual hard drive (hda or hdb, I forget)

Open an emelfm file manager and go to the /mnt directory
Then Right-Click on the mountpoint (hda or hdb).  You should see something like "lost+found/" and "backup.tar.gz".
Then copy over your myDSL extensions.

Then reboot and choose

dsl mydsl=hda               (or hdb whichever it should be from the last step)

and then it should reload your extensions.
