I know its possible...I used to have a copy of the DSL-CS server (a project someone used to build a stand alone CS server)

Perhaps 300c_pilot might have some ideas on the subject

it can't find the file its looking for  :p

the question you need to ask is why...

I've had funny filepath things happen to me too with WINE+CS. I can start a game in CS but it only loads DMC maps??? I think its something to do with the file paths but I'm not sure.

That was on Vector Linux SOHO BTW not DSL.

How is it that you are trying to run the .bin?  The best thing to do might be to extract the bin in some way and repack it as a .tar.gz so that you could remaster the cd.  I don't know if that is your goal or not.  If you remaster it you could edit the config files in the tar and they would be preserved then when it gets extracted into the filesystem.  By the looks of the bin size though you would need a big chunk of ram.  Might want to take a differant route, like finding a way to have it in the fs when you remaster the cd.

RomZes is probably trying to install the CS server using the bin file.
I haven't tried it, but try to find out what kind of file it is.
It might be a script with an packaged file inside.
Then you can find were the problem occurs and solve it.
You might want to try to run "file <binfile>" to find out what kind of file it is.

this is original link to how-to

PS: it says
The package is no longer distributed as a tar/gz file. It is distributed as a .bin file that needs to be directly executed. So, after downloading the file, make it executable and then execute it. For example:

chmod a+x hlds_l_3111_full.bin
./hlds_l_3111_full.bin

You will be presented with a EULA, after which the usual tar/gz package will be extracted. From there you gunzip and untar as usual.

Please check & see if it is just a typo:
1st thing is that you have listed the file name as: hlds_"1 ONE"_1120_full.bin
The name of the file however is: hlds_"Lower case L"_1120_full.bin

If that fails, redownload from somewhere else. I have not run or played Counter Strike, but I have run into your problem of file not found, especially if you are running dsl under the new VMware server. What you will need to do is redownload the *.bin, I have seen where a file will be off a couple of bytes in size and it will ruin your day. Also check the MD5 of the file you downloaded. This will tell you if it is complete.

Hope it helps.:)

i checked the file was fine, probably because i downloaded in windows and transfered in samba.
So i went < http://www.japje.nl/linux-steam-and-cs16-install-guide >
And just installed CS.server on my DSL =)
