Update MC to 4.5 or higher?

Midnight Commander added support for the fish protocol with the 4.5 version. This would allow a connection to a remote machine for transferring files using ssh.

What would be the implications of updating MC to 4.5 or newer? I know ftp is well supported in dsl but I think it would be wise to encourage ssh usage these days.
