Damn Slow ForumMore speed in here would be more than welcome. Posted by doobit on Feb. 10 2006,01:04
It's terrible slow during the day, but gets faster at night.

Heh that depends on time zone Posted by green on Feb. 10 2006,17:12
I, too, have noticed how snail like the forum's rendering is. It is getting horrible.

The forum usage rate has climbed a lot in the last month or so.It is now common to see 3 pages worth of new posts or replies within a 24 hour period. It is difficult to keep up with this traffic. Seems like lately my "Read the Forums" time is much bigger than my "play with the os time". I did notice a performance improvement earlier this week, however. Posted by Guest on Feb. 11 2006,22:16
It runs slow due to the fact that it uses a common gateway interface written in Perl... Perl needs to compile before running.May also be due to server conditions as well; bandwidth limitations (like a 56k connection). Anyway, I second that motion. Not just this forum, but pretty much all DSL web pages load slow... And I'm using a T1 connection. Posted by Guest on Mar. 11 2006,19:49
Additionally, this forum may be running slow due to the 'digital handshake' that the forum makes with DSL (for user login).Perhaps if the forum wasn't coded to let only DSL users login, then it might speed up some. Posted by mikshaw on Mar. 11 2006,20:10
poppe: That might be the case if the slowdown was consistent, and persistent. However, the most noticeable drop seemed to have occurred over the course of only a week or so, around the time this thread was started, and was not apparent during certain parts of the day. It was also apparent on other operating systems. Since that drop in performance seemed to have occured for only a brief period of time (i haven't had any trouble in nearly a month), I'd say cbagger was probably right about it being a temporary spike in traffic.

Doesn't that 'digital handshake' qualify as a 'denial of service' attempt?...Why?! when not everyone gets their Internet setup right away with Linux? |
