I would really like to see a move towards using sarge(stable) instead of the ancient packages in old/stable that are currently used for DSL. I know it's a size thing newer is usally bigger, but come on man how long can you live with  such outdated apps? Luckly for now there are .dsl's and uci's that kinda help for some of the usall things. I've played with the sarge repos and know there are many packages that can be updated with only some minor fixing.

Sorry, just had to get that out.  :(

Those "old" apps in DSL have been hacked so they resemble the original. They are perfect for what this distribution is designed for. They work extremely well, so I can live with them quite easily. Why update if the update is not better?
Also, if you feel the need for the latest and greatest, then there are plenty of choices out there for you. Probably someone is already producing exactly what you are looking for. That's the beauty of open source.
Finally, the extentions (.uci and .dsl) are user contributed. That means that someone saw a need and met it. You have the right and freedom to do the same thing if you see a need. There are instructions for making the extentions in the Wiki.
