New browser ...Forum: DSL Ideas and Suggestions Topic: New browser ... started by: antani Posted by antani on May 30 2006,08:26
Hi , first of all congratulations for your wonderful work ... I'm a fan (and a user) since 0.9 version , cause I'm interested in use of old machine ...I love this distro but I think that one of the biggest problems in use on old machine are browsers ... Dillo is incredible about speed ...but non about completeness ... For Firefox is valid the opposite ... I've recently found a project very interesting that could resolve (partially) the problem ... it's KAZEHAKASE ! < http://kazehakase.sourceforge.jp/ > It's simple , complete and light ... What do you think about it ? thank you Posted by hs7sv on May 30 2006,08:43
Kazehakase requires GTK+. If someone wants to try, it is available on < Debian Packages > also.EDIT: Firefox is the best browser for me. Posted by kerry on May 30 2006,10:15
But it's not a stand alone browser. It requires mozilla(YUCK) or seamonkey(never tried).-> < http://kazehakase.sourceforge.jp/wiki/hiki.cgi?AboutKazehakase >Required software and libraries * Gtk+2.0 or newer, (2.2 recommended) * Mozilla built with Gtk+2 (1.4 or newer). Kazehakase 0.3.4 and newer versions also support having SeaMonkey? instead of Mozilla. I would give up the distro before i give up firefox! Posted by humpty on May 30 2006,12:29

Firefox is taking over the Web as an alternative browser to MSIE. So webmasters are now being forced to make their pages to be compatible with Firefox or they lose a significant share of potential viewers. The main reason to use Opera has always been the performance of the product. Opera is significantly faster for OLD computers (Pre Pentium-2). Personally, I think Firefox is "the right one" for the base distro, with Opera available in UCI form for those with computers that are considered low performance even by DSL standards. Hi guys!I like and use seamonkey a lot. It works fine though it is in the testing phase. It'a an uci so it doesn't need a lot of memory. Have fun, meo |
