DSL is Great!  But, let's make it greater!

The newer versions of xfs can use True Type fonts.  Let's update!

xfs is a font server, it does not have fonts.

correct me if i'm wrong but the current xfs font server does not support true type fonts ? while the xft server (which comes with xfree86) does.

xft isn't a font server, as far as i know...it's an extension to xfree86/xorg which helps to display special features of certain font types.

Of course if i'm wrong i'll appreciate being corrected....fonts are an annoying thing to work with, and mainly i just stick with the good ol bitmaps.

As for the original post, I think there are already too many fonts in DSL.  Most are kinda ugly and i never use more than a few of them.  In my opinion it would be nice to have built-in support for additional fonts without actually including them....the user could pick whatever fonts or font sets he wants from mydsl, and the base system would have only a handful of the most vital faces.  However, I have no idea how much room this support would require, if it were to include freetype/opentype.

I have a few nice ones that I _paid_ for and would like to be able to use!

i would prefer at least all the bitstream or better yet the new dejavu fonts, which is the replacement for bitstream, if not that, than at least the stock san,serif,sans-serif, and monospace.
