I suggest that an "automatic update" feature is added to DSL.

This could take the form of a menu item or icon that when selected would check if there is a later version of DSL - if so, updated files would be downloaded and the DSL version updated whilst keeping the original settings.

There are too many installation types for this to work reliably I think.  In the startup dillo screen is there a link to the dsl site?  I am sure there is - so every time you boot it, you can use that screen to check the version dsl is on (man they seem to fly by)

As for upgrading - if you are using a frugal install, it is simply a matter of copying the knoppix file over.

Well there's more to it than just the Knoppix file - any old version files in backup.tar.gz will overwrite the new version files on the first restore, etc etc.

I was thinking something along the lines of "apt-get update" would be useful but I guess maybe not.
