Allow Backup/Restore app to accept full pathForum: DSL Ideas and Suggestions Topic: Allow Backup/Restore app to accept full path started by: nickelplated Posted by nickelplated on Oct. 14 2006,05:29
I noticed that when you click the Backup/Restore item from the menu and get prompted to enter in the device to use, if you put in the full path it gives you an error. For example if I put in /dev/hda1 instead of hda1. Just a small usability request, but I think it would eliminate any confusion with new users who expect to be able to use the full path when specifying which device to backup to. I'm not sure how this a problem, since the "Getting Started" page which appears at boot specifically tells you not to use the full path.

Yeah. I don't think it's really a "Problem", just a potential usability suggestion. For whatever reason a person might not know that, whether they hadn't read that part of the getting started page, or they'd forgotten it, there's no need to punish them for it when it could be tweaked to accept the full path in addition to the current way with just 2 lines of code. Most usability improvements on any distro aren't exactly groundbreaking or genius, just tiny improvements like this one. Fair enough.
