I think it would be great if you could manage to swap the Ted word processor with abiword as standard. This could make a more powerful distrobution as a whole. Austrumni managed it i think... Some of the apps are a waste and could be replaced. It is overall my favorite distro though

When I see a post about this distro or that distro did it, why can't yours, my response is. It is always a tradeoff between hardware support and apps. Some of the other small distro prefer apps with after-support for hardware. DSL leans more towards hardware support with after-support, MyDSL, for apps. One reason for this is the Knoppix base, but the other reason is that many more people could create/repackage applications to work in DSL than would have the expertise to create hardware support. We have Abiword in two formats for use in DSL. One is a .dsl which is ramdisk intensive, the other is a .unc which can run on very low ram systems. Posted by shane on Dec. 09 2006,17:52

Shane, no problem. Many times when I answer a post it is also for wider readership, perhaps someone who is new to DSL and would like to know. When I post v3.2RC1, you might want to try the new mkmydsl script to make a CD with Abiword in it. The existing mkmydsl script I made very early on and is not as easy as the new more automated one that will be part of v3.2 comming RSN. |
