Please consider adding this to DSL.
A text file in the top of the media, both embedded and ISO that has the version number of DSL like 3.2RC1.  Since I run it in several places this could stop some confusion.

Thanks,
Constantine

Running the system stats tool will show the current version, which is then stored in stats.txt

I don't quite understand why it was done this way, though. With every new version, the stats.lua script needs to be modified and that change affects only stats. It seems like it would be simpler and more useful to have a dsl-version file which could be read by any program that might want to know the DSL version. Also, updating a single-line file seems like it would be easier than updating one line of many in a script.

It is in /usr/share/doc/dsl/release.txt and therefore easily read by any script/program.

That reminds me about the only thing i wanted to say after a quick look at 3.1: a DSL version string at boot time helps when playing with different versions.

Btw you guys are too fast for me: i didn't have time to fully test 3.1 and you're already releasing 3.2 RC1!

/usr/share/doc/dsl/release.txt

The debian version is stored in /etc/debian_version, how about adding a symlink to /etc/dsl_version?
