Point and Click Left Handed MouseForum: DSL Ideas and Suggestions Topic: Point and Click Left Handed Mouse started by: flyer Posted by flyer on May 05 2007,10:21
DSL is great! One survey I saw of art students claimed 45% left handers. Mouse button handedness is an extreme BASIC of any modern computing. I find the problem doesn't even occur to right handers. Trying to learn Linux AND righthandedness at the same time would drive me crazy in a day. I would NEVER attemp right handed computing -- I would avoid software that required it. Having to enter some weird alien cryptic script (enter WHAT, and enter it WHERE??) does not befriend new Linux (ex-winblows) users. Posted by roberts on May 05 2007,15:06
It is on the menu.(Mouse Config) Explore your system. A nice gui for handedness and speed is already there. Posted by jpeters on May 08 2007,03:01
I'm left handed, and never gave using my right hand for the mouse a second thought. Actually, using your opposite hand is a well known technique for developing your brain (I understand that may be against the "window's" approach). Posted by mikshaw on May 08 2007,05:07
Interesting concept. One of these days I might consider trying to to switch to my left hand for a while to see if it might work for me. The way my desk is situated, the left side would definitey be a more visually appealing a space saving position for the mouse. Also, I tend to focus on the keyboard anyway unless i'm playing a game or web surfing. I don't think i'd be able to shoot monsters very well left handed, though.

I'd recommend starting with something like chess, and only moving to shooting monsters after sufficient alternate sphere brain development (ASBD) . Posted by mikshaw on May 08 2007,14:32
There are only a few games I play that require a mouse, and they all require a steady hand, quick reflexes, or both. So regardless of where I start, it won't be too far behind Unreal Tournament.I've been wishing I could focus more on the keyboard while web surfing, but so far haven't had much luck. I downloaded a firefox extension called numberfox that numbers all links on a page, and that was pretty awesome. Unfortunately it stopped working the next day. |
