So basically Netfront is a browser originally made for Symbian, but was ported over in GTK 1.2. The article compares Dillo with Netfront, and is proven superior over it...
Should DSL use this instead?

Yarr! That be lookin like a promisin' brower, there.

somebody make a .dsl and we shall try it, mate.

BTW, happy International Talk Lika A Pirate Day!!!

Yarr! You be noticin' it too, matey!

I don't think that the browser itself is particularly good - the engine is, however. The interface is simply clunky and feels unfinished, and until the code becomes open, then nobody can improve upon it.

Aye, the interface do be clunky, but the page renders be far superior to yon' Dillo.

Unfortunately, me eyes do no read whatever foul language that the netfront homepage do be written in so I have no idea if they even plan to make it OSS.

If on' o' ye be able to read it, an' tell us, it would be great.

Yarr.

yarrrr....I be usin' Dillo for naught but rapid access to me local documents.  If 'twere true that this young upstart be supportin' a wider range of code than Dillo, well...she'll be a fine vessel for sailin' the Web, says I.

If ye use the "English" button on the netfront homepage, the words become less foul.

Yarr, a great fool be I. Alas, the page she says that your only supposed to use it for 45 days, then you have to pay for it.

A grand tragedy it be, matey.

On another note though, Dillo recently released version 0.8, and it supposedly supports a lot more than the version in DSL (0.6.3 i think), so perhaps we should try an updated Dillo.

yar, ye version of dillo be 0.7.3

For thine version of 'ere Dillo be auld, per'aps we should upgrade? The patches do be workin' with the new 0.8, me hearties!

Sounds like a good candidate for a *.dsl extension.

That way we can try it out and if it works better, includes ALL the functionality of the 0.73 patched version that is already part of DSL and it is not significantly large in file size it can then by included into a future build of DSL.

Could it ever be a permanent replacement for Dillo?
Or perhaps a compilmentary addon and replace the other less powerfull webbrowser app..

It seems this one reneders much more nicely...

A parched up 0.8 DIllo is not as capable as the one sitting in DSL right now.  It does have the ability to brows FTP, which is nice, but SSL has a serious flaw.

SSL in 0.8 uses wget to make secure connections.  This seems like a nifty thing on the surface, but it reeks havoc on session identifications, and cookie exchanges.  Until 0.8 can do basic logins like Yahoo mail DSL will be sticking with enhanced 0.7.3.

Side note:
Links hacked can do quite a bit as well, including authentication, ftp, downloads, application launching, javascript, user agent manipulation, and much more.  If you want to make it do page navigation like Dillo turn off the 'K' option.

gLinks Hacked is a capable browser, the new .8.2 version of Dillo has beter rendering than the .7 bversion in the distro.
The other browser is not OS, in fact it is propritary and only the demo version for developers is available for free.  They usually charge OEMS to distribute it.

Dillo still doesn't handle CSS, which i think is essential....more so than javascript anyway.
