Wouldn't it be nice to be able just plug USB stick with DSL on it into the port and start using DSL without rebooting a machine? I mean virtually?Sort of like MetroPipe had done: < http://www.metropipe.net/ProductsPVPM.shtml > Posted by ke4nt1 on Oct. 30 2004,19:24
No.In a virtual, emulated linux environment, DSL is puke slow. Even on a dual CPU athlon 2.0GHz box, it makes you cry to see it runs MUCH slower than it does even on my 233MHz laptop. Screen refreshes are horrible.. 73 ke4nt Posted by AwPhuch on Oct. 30 2004,22:25
This is unfortunately trueBrian AwPhuch Posted by l0st on Oct. 31 2004,04:57
Besides, having DSL as the guest OS pretty much defeats the purpose of being lightweight.I'd rather have DSL as host and rdesktop/VNC to a win box if it's absolutely necessary. Posted by drx456 on Nov. 01 2004,04:44
In LPI training course, having DSL as the guest OS is pretty good.

I did this...however...I dont know if I am violating the GPL by using thier version of a GPL program called qemu... PM for details but dont expect a miracle...I was told to remove my links and stuff to what I have done so far by the higher ups and dont want to upset the big boss men by doing something illegal "in thier names!!!!" I use DSL under VMWare and it workd just fine and seems as fast as on my machines that have it as the host OS.I dont have it on a USB pen though just as a HD install or an ISO. |
