Is there a way to install lilo onto a floppy, instead of to the MBR?

Over in IRC, we have had several requests for this over the last week or so, and I think it would be a great idea.

Lots of people don't want their mom/grandma/crazy uncle carl getting confuzed or scared when they see lilo come up at boot. A lot of windows users are jumpy like that, anyting in text mode = EVIL VIRUS!! MUST KILL!!!

More insanity from the nut-house that is J.P.'s Mind™

Edit the "boot=" line in /etc/lilo.conf as follows:

boot=/dev/fd0

Then run lilo with a floppy disk in the drive.

Don't know if there's an easy way to accomplish this when you first install DSL to HD (edit dsl-hdinstall script maybe?).

I've developed a habit of *always* backing up my mbr before installing a new OS.

Sorry about that.
I didn't notice which forum this was in until just *after* I'd posted my reply above, so my response probably isn't all that helpful.

I use ntldr in my mbr with lilo as a file in hda1, and it is a bit of a pain to have to restore my mbr and rerun lilo to update the hda1 file every time I HD install DSL.

i think you got it back to front, it should be boot=/dev/hda1.

i'll try it tonight.
