Kurumin linux support softmodems and is based on Knoppix.
maybe somebody can do a dsl ?

lack of support for softmodems is the only bad thing of Damn small Linux

winmodem drivers take up huge amounts of space (if i ever got round to downloading mine it would be 72mb), dialup is being used less these days and winmodems less still, i suggest you get a new modem or wait until your area gets broadband (or get your backside down to an isp if you can already get it).
