It would be nice if DSL ran on the Athlon 64 CPU, I have tried to get it to load on my laptop with a Athlon 64 3400+ CPU, but it will not load.

Which release did you try?
I remastered a 0.7.2 with quake2 and it runs great on a acer with a amd 64 bit cpu.
Can you provide us more details where it goes wrong ? some errors?

Starts Boot from Grub an hangs.

HP Pavilion zv5340us Notebook PC (AMD Athlon 64 3400+, 512 MB RAM, 100 GB Hard Drive, DVD-RW Drive)

Tried booting from CD and USB Thumb drive, same thing happens both times.

Try the following boot command:

dsl nopcmcia noapic acpi=off

and see what happens.

I run DSL 9.0 on an AMD Athlon 64 2800+. My motherboard is a Gigabyte K8S760, and it uses the Award BIOS.
Have you had any luck?

this is not a A64 problem rather a problem with the r3000z
series, more over it also effects the zv5000z series.
as both laptops share the same internal components.

Yes I was really very annoyed I couldn't get a HP nx9105 (ie a HP Compaq r3000 A64 XP-M laptop wearing different clothes) to boot with either dsl or knoppix or any combination of cheatcodes. I'm told Knoppix 3.7 might do it because of the abovementioned 2.6 kernel.
