I was thinking... selling DSL Tablet computers to the masses. Make it so that the customer couldn't install Windows on at all and force the user to use Linux. Sell at about $799-$1699 and increase as demands get higher.

hmm...

You're kidding, yes?

That idea would be a very very quickly ended business venture...

Unless those laptops or tablets were insanely crazy powerful for that price people would shy away from it, and alot of people the word "linux" scares them!

Add that 256 MB stick for $54, and WooHoo !!!

neo_trio, it's not bad about thinking of ways to make dsl money.  I'm going to have to go with the crowd, though, and say that I think your price point is a little high.  I like the idea of a bundle, but dsl might not be strong enough to represent Linux to it's fullest.  A full install would be better off with a full debian install.

Perhaps a better solution would be to offer a CD along with the computer.  Even 25 cent profit from the manufacturer for every computer would be a huge deal.  Or a magazine: think of 1 cent on every magazine sold.  It seems like a little but it adds up fast.

Maybe we have to promote DSL in a different way.
Not just the smallest best distro. We have to emphasize some very usefull aspects of DSL that may be common for Linux users but not for the rest of the world.
Think about this: "SSH is a powerfull tool, so prometi it like this: Access your files from anywhere. Anytime you leave home, put the DSL CD and reboot."
"Host your own site". There are some sites offering dinamic IP´s for free (example: no-ip.com). They give you a small program so you can have a web address (also this way you can ping it to know your actual IP when you are not in home). Maybe this little program can be a standard   in the CD.

Just thinking in loud,
Keep on doing things like this.

This is funny... i´m replying to myself...

John: Why not different languages for DSL site? It can be helpfull for DSL to became more popular.

As I´m from Argentina, my natural language is Spanish. I´ll be very glad to translate it. So if you are interested tell me so I can start and send the translation to you.

Any other who can translate to another language?

Thanks
