OK, I know DSL is a live CD OS but.......

It has made a convenient backup OS for me on my computer recently and I hope to figure out how to get it working on an SD chip soon for greater portability.

My point is that there is no apparent method for installing an updated version of DSL without losing all of your earlier installed programmes and DSL settings, and with updates coming at quite regular intervals, this means that you are destined to use outdated versions. It would be neat if you could just boot from your new CD, do a standard HD-install and have your system updated without having to reinstall everything else too.

Otherwise, a great little OS.

You are close to nirvana...

Once you move onto the storage media,
You will want an install that has as little write activity as possible.
( Writing to SD/CF/USB repeatedly kills the media. )

So, rather than use a full HDInstall, explore the frugal HDInstall.
Similar features, runs completely in ram as an option,
and upgrading is as easy as replacing the one /KNOPPIX/knoppix file!
You lose nothing.. All your settings, customizations, and backups are retained.
