I mentioned these in my User Feedback to 0.7.3, but thought they were more appropriate to be placed here.

I'm wondering if in the theme menu, you could add "(Default)" after the default theme?  Or possibly move it to the top of the list.  After testing the themes it was a pain to get back to the original theme.  I kept thinking that it was "simple", but that wasn't it.

In the mydsl menu (I have DSL files on disk) the list is not alphabetized.  Not a big problem, but some items are hard to pick out when it is not sorted.

In the browsers:  you might want to add some nice default bookmarks.  All you currently have is LinuxQuestions.org.  Maybe we could vote on some suggested links to include in the forum.  I would include stuff like debian.org, damnsmalllinux.org, debian newbie, rute users tutorial, slashdot.org, newsforge.com, ugu.com, linux command line reference, an online man repository since man has been stripped out, linux.com and others.

I agree with the idea of putting in more default links in the browser(s)
they must be all non profit and open source oriented web pages, thought, IMHO.
the suggested one are ok, I suppose, but damnsmalllinux.org, which I seem to remember is the default if you click on the home button. If so, it's already there, isn't it?

firefox should use damnsmalllinux.org. i dont like dillo and those other browsers that come with dsl. they dont seem to want to login to things.

maybe you could have dsl recognise win modems?  is this posible for any linux to recognise em? none of the ones ive tried will recognise my modem

I'm using SuSE on my workstation, and it has built-in detection of some winmodems, so it's possible.  I'm thinking it's part of Yast, though...might not be so easy to implement into a liveCD.
It would be nice...I haven't gotten online yet with DSL.

ooo thats a scarey thought. not being able to have the internet in your OS. at least DSL works well with Adsl with DHCP setup >.>

Getting back to the original start of this thread.
Adding tinyminds.org would be nice, they have little short
tips just about everyday.

Knoppix 3.4 detected the lucent winmodem in my laptop.  I don't use dial-up so I never tried it.  It should be doable if we find out how Knoppix did it and then include the modules.

As for bookmarks, damnsmall is sort of the default.  You get the local copy of the getting started w/ DSL.  Firefox defaults to the Mozilla Firefox page.

In Mepis (Sept. or Oct. 2003 release) they had lots of cool links for newbies and online docs, linux news, etc.  Then in the new beta releases almost all are gone.  I'll have to find that copy and get teh list of links.  I'm thinking of resources we could all use on occasion and stuff that would be VERY helpful to the linux or DamnSmall newbie.   :)

Heads-up, action-in-progress....

I have assembled a small list of googled sites, and
pulled out many good texts from the forums in an effort
to compile some of this material into some html how-to's
scripts, and tips/hints that could be placed either
within the website itself, or built into a dsl
for use in any of the browsers...

When I get a moment....
( 9 new .dsl arrivals this morning )   :)

I'll grab other links, docs, texts, and so forth from you folks,
and cull thru them with roberts & john to get something up and
going in the docs dept..

ripcrd6 -

I will have to take a look at Mepis 2003.10. I follow that distro closely also. I liked the last stable release because nvidia was detected and worked right at boot!

If I can get to it, I will spin it up and document the links referenced.

Take care

Chris
