John, this is a continuation of my rant in How-To,
I live in an area where cable, wireless and DSL are all close but not close enough and it looks like they won't be for a long time. ( the price I pay for country living )
I'm only one of many thousands who are stuck with using these software pieces of crap to connect. I know I can get a hardware modem but they are'nt anything like cheap around here.

Supposedly there are licensing issues around the drivers, tho Kurumin has included a lot on the cd, I don't know how he has gotten around it if there are issues. With the Lucent modem at least he has a script to detect the modem and load the drivers and it works great. I'll dig up my copy of Kurumin and check, I know symbolic links have to be made in /dev and the modem has to be included in /dev as a device.

But to my begging or grovelling or whatever,
Is it possible to include the drivers in DSL? I would be more then happy to help in any way I can.

True, the drivers can be easily built when you have all the ingredients, GCC, make, kernel headers etc: but newbies have a hard time doing all this.

Thanx John,
roadie

Hi Roadie,
I'm in California, licensing issues can be a very big deal here :).

If you have an old version of Knoppix laying around you may want to try this:

John, I just burned DSL 5.2 and tried the link you gave me.
I did it differently by chrooting into my Morphix HD install but the symlinks worked well and I'm posting this thru Dillo.

Glad to see Midnight Commander, it's the first thing I install w/ any distro if it's not on it already, tabbed Dillo is great too.
I find vi confusing but Scite works fine for editing, noticed mcedit is gone.

But you and the contributors have done a nice job.

Thanx,
roadie

Maybe it is possible to have MC launch the 'nano' editor instead of the 'vi' editor. I bet that it is changable in a config file somewhere.
