I have access to an older laptop, 1.2 ghz, with a DVD player.  Being cheap I would like to set it up to boot Linux and auto matically start a DVD player for my car (Daughter).  It is feasable to mount the LARGE TFT display and have it play DVDs only.  Any ideas?  Set the LT to boot and run only the DVD software, no overhead, fast boot as possible.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you should try Geexbox Linux. It's especially made to play DVD's and videos only. It's a live cd of only 6MB! And it's about the only thing that gets my ati tvout working :).
