i think if u put a tiny verson of some program that could connect to this network in the cd it would be a good idea, i know a bunch of my friends that like the idea of linux, and want one that runs off a cd but they download stuff off this network all the time... same with me, but i cant find a program and im not that smart lol to like make one that works with dsl, if anyone could help me out i would muchly apprechate itWes

Older versions of DSL had Mutella, a tiny, buggy, annoying Gnutella client, but it was dropped because it sucked.But now we have Limewire as an extension, and although it's rather large, it's the best Gnutella client out there.

Still does, but it hasn't worked for me for some time..
Won't connect to port, says libFastTrack.la
no such file, etc.
I think it might have expired.
Limewire and Java are a bit too large, so I might try
Mutella debs.

I like mutella, tiny and not THAT bad Saidunleashed, it's quite good in my opinion. Maybe the new version is less buggy? Or maybe I'm just not using mutella (or the gnutella network) that much and haven't noticed the trillion bugs which it contains ;)

No, sorry, just pointing out the Java bit.I tried with the Java.uci and Limewire.dsl,
(is this right?)
but I have never had anything at all to do with Java,
and of course Limewire says it can't find it.
I don't even know step one about Java , so that's
where I stopped (after searching the web for something
like "Java Basics for the Profoundly Ignorant").
I tried installing Mutella .debs, but can't get libreadline
to install.
Thats about as far as I've gotten with it.
Sure would welcome a little "Howto" on the Java/Limewire thing...

First of all, you need to load the jre1_5_0.tar.gz extension from the system section of the repository as well as the limewire.dsl file. There was a discussion < here > about this java location problem. A good solution looked to be thorzul's suggestion of opening a bash shall and typing:sudo ln -s /opt/jre1_5_0/bin/java /usr/local/bin/java
to fix the problem. Loading both limewire and jre, then running the above line worked great for me.
It appears that Coma has resubmitted limewire.dsl to fix this, but it isn't in the testing section yet.

This is the line you need to type in the console or add to bootlocal.sh to get Limewire up and going. This was posted in another thread about Limewire. I found it by searching the forum for 'limewire'. This will get you up and going!

and ran as root,worked fine, but not too smart.
I'll do something a bit more "elegant" later.
Now I wonder whats going on with installing libreadline for Mutella...
