Are there any versions of linux created to fit on a mini cdr (the 210MB discs)? If not, this would be a nice addition to DSL. A mid version with a manual, more features, still on a small disc, and live.

Also on a side note. Are there any other prominent live distros out there? And does anyone know of an english version of Knoppix live? The site seems to only have a german version, and I can't read enough to see if the language settings can be changed inside the OS.

I have the English version of Knoppix (ver 3). Its a nice distro that runs off a live CD, but you can't run it in less than 128 Megs of RAM. I have 128 megs on one of my laptops, but since the video steals some, Knoppix won't boot without more ram.

As far as I know there is no English version of the Knoppix documentation.

Try out Morphix LightGUI. It's at about 208MB right now. It uses Xfce 4 for the window manager. I loaded it on a 233MMX laptop and it runs great. I think you need about 32MB to run it, maybe less if you have a swap partition and/or load to HDD. I have lots of ram on my laptop, but a slow processor, only 1.5MB of video ram and a 2GB drive, so I needed something lighter than Knoppix. I've been looking here for ideas to feed back into Morphix, since they are both based on Knoppix/Debian anyway. DamnSmall is sweet too!!

Slackware Live is a pretty good under 210 MB over 185ish distro too, a new release will come on within the next few weeks and it will become modular >=D plus a toram fuction and lots of happy stuff.

Daniele: I don't know what you mean about Alex not having time to update the Morphix Distro. The latest version 0.4.1 came out in October and he's doing 4 of them! If you install to HDD like I did, you just do a few fixes and then you "apt-get update && apt-get upgrade" and you are up to date.

If you are having internet problems w/ Morphix, post a question to the forums. That's what they are there for. I've found everyone most helpful there and in the IRC channel. Heck, I got some help from Debian users in my Linux User Group (kclug.org) and in the #debian-laptop channel. I've been so impressed I have been answering questions at the Morphix site. It is what you make of it after all. Hope to see you over there.

Also you mentioned adding Icewm and Fluxbox. Adding 2 or more WMs to a distro starts to make it inflate. I think Alex chose XFCE 4, because is standards based (freedesktop.org) and currently in development (active), whereas Icewm seems to have frozen in limbo. Who wants to look at an almost clone of winders anyway. XFCE 4 is damn cool. Fluxbox is too light for me, but still great for this project or for a rescue type disk.

Alex is very nice, but as you said yourself, he mantains 4 version of Morphix, plus once he was saying that he was very busy 'with school'

Anyway, I don't see what this has to do with our suggestion.
In the end it is down to John if he wants to make a second version of his distro or not.
Personally I'd love to, because I like the way John works (this doesn't mean I don't like the others)
