DSL would be even cooler if it has 2.4.26 like feather linux that remaster from knoppix 3.4. Since new kernel supports more hardware and security fixed.

I totally agree, I tried to compile my own kernel but there is no way I can install all packages needed (just because apt doesn't seem to want to install all packages).

So a new(er) kernel would be nice!

I'm sure that it would be nice.

However, since my guess is that DSL is not assembled via automatic scripts and instead is manually built up from knoppix version x.x it would be a major effort to rebuild it again for knoppix 3.4

With all of the development work going on around the DSL extensions, I would guess that there is not enough time in the day for a knoppix 3.4 remaster.

Lastly, I think we should give knoppix 3.4 a little more experience to allow for bugfixes before it is used as the foundation for the next version of DSL.  Knoppix 3.4 is fairly new and Klaus & Co. have already needed to do a couple of fixes in the last 30 days or so.  Especially in the area of scsi controller autodetection.

I agree cbagger01...
I am so pleased with the way DSL is working for me now...
Flexible, moldable, yet very stable ...
It already does what I want to do...

Ok forget about remaster from Knoppix 3.4. What do i need to apply after I upgrade 2.4.26 kernel manually?

I believe you can apt-get install kernel-image-2.4.26-386

I was someone just saying that didnt work with dsl?

kernel-2.4.26 and its modules work with DSL. I even made an alpha cut to test with. Some ot the new Knoppix stuff (auto detection) still has some issues. The auto detection has also dictated that Knoppix change to isolinux. As they apparently ran out of room for some of the boot time modules to load.  But even with the limited number of machines that we have available to test with, we have seen boot failures. There is even a thread about such on knoppix.net, which we have been following closely. DSL has always taken pride in trying to be a stable environment. You can be sure that we are on top of this.

Congratulations on getting 2.4.26 working - but how did you do it?

How about telling me where I can get an ISO of the Knoppix 3.3 that you use to compile stuff.

I have 3.3 from 2/16/04 and it has the 2.4.24-xfs kernel.  I'm screwed for compiling my wireless driver.  It HAS to be compiled on the EXACT kernel it will run on.  There is probably something in the source I have that could make it generic to the 2.4.x series, but I don't know how to do this.  I do know that I can compile the driver on and Knoppix and then insmod the driver.  This card is the SMC 2635W with an ADMtek chip in it.  ADMtek release the driver in source form, but not with a GPL license.  I need my wireless on DSL!!  :O
