DSL versioningForum: DSL Ideas and Suggestions Topic: DSL versioning started by: UKBill Posted by UKBill on July 06 2004,02:24
OK, I know, this could be the dumbest post ever OR a reasonable suggestion for an amazinlgy and funily overlooked situation.i had dloaded DSL a while ago and only now I found time to give it a try. So I booted and when I tried to use some dsl extentions none seemed to work... "hmm.. odd... this is dsl 0.7 so this should work... er, wait a sec... is this 0.7 ?... let's see... let's see... damn, I can' t find the version number anywhere !!!" I even did some dmesg | grep' ing and still can' t find it So, is there a way to tell what version I am running? if not, maybe you could add that in future releases, just to avoid silly posts like mine Thanks in advance Posted by woverin on July 06 2004,15:42
I agree with you. There is no version number in DSL cd. Correct me if i'm wrong. here is a suggestion. Make a text file and put change log and version details or simply put it in DSL control panel.

Hi guys well, I mostly wanted to know what version I have so I could ask about extension in that one, but I shall post that in it' s adequate forum. Then again, I think you already answered my not-yet-asked question. Cheers Posted by cbagger01 on July 07 2004,10:58
I do not know where the DSL version number is listed. However, I can say this: If you have DSL version 7.1, the DATE/TIME of the knoppix file on the cdrom should be found with this command: ls -al /cdrom/KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX Results: -r--r--r-- 1 root root 48209893 May 31 17:58 /cdrom/KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX HTH Posted by roberts on July 07 2004,14:35
Version number is implemented in the next version. For prior versions you can check the change log. Working backwards look for these in your system. As soon as you find it then stop that is your version number. 0.7.1 A mydsl button in emelfm or /opt/powerdown.sh 0.7.0 Apps->Tools->got Memory & Bandwidth->Synaptic 0.6.3 F2 boot options are DSL or DSLPanel on enhanced desktop 0.6.2 Apps->Tools->Net MAN 0.6.1 System->Daemons->FTPd 0.6.0 /opt/bootlocal.sh or "Getting Started" 0.5.3 Apps->Sound->gPhone 0.5.2 Apps->Tools->CD burn app Once you find your version number then find and use a "sharpie". |
